Small Gardens Make a Big Difference

When this client contacted me, they were worried that the project was too small for me to be interested in. The opposite is true! I love small garden projects and I think that any garden size can make a difference for your local ecosystem. I’m also able to install small projects like this by myself, while larger ones require a contractor.

This client really wanted to include some of her existing potted plants in the design, such as the geraniums and Princess Flower. She also really wanted roses for cut flowers. For this plant palette, I chose native plants that would look cohesive with the roses and geraniums while still offering benefits to pollinators. There are two species of native Milkweed in this design, as well as Yarrow and Monkeyflower.

Reading a Landscape Concept Plan

A concept plan (shown above) is a top-down view of a garden design. A section view (below) shows what it would look like from the side. Both views are extremely helpful to understand what a garden design would actually look like and are part of the deliverables when I complete a project. Whenever you get a garden design, make sure that you get these drawings at the end from the designer so that you have multiple options for installing the design. You can shop around for a contractor and get quotes, instead of being tied to one designer or builder.
